About Cairns Canine Academy

I am passionate about helping you understand your dog. My aim is to help handlers build a deeper, more meaningful relationship with their dog. Along with teaching you the skills you need to train your pet, I also consider the dog’s breed traits, its innate motivations, learned behaviours, temperament and previous experiences, so that I can help you work towards achieving successful outcomes.

What makes me different from other dog trainers is my considerable hands-on dog training experience, having achieved a very high standard of skill level with my own dogs. My methods encompass motivational dog training with a strong focus on positive reinforcement that takes place within a well-structured program. I help you create reliable, sustainable practices that reflect yours and your dog’s needs. These skills are applicable in the real world and result in happy, well balanced and well-behaved dogs.

I provide a safe fenced training environment and my classes are kept small so that I am able to give all participants the time they need to progress in their training efforts.

Dog Training with a Difference

Train the dog in front of you

My initial Handler training sessions also includes an assessment of your dog, what skills the dog has, what challenges you face with your dog and then we can embark on a strategy tailored to your needs.

You will learn to work with your dog, establish boundaries and embark on a choice based training program, where you reward your dog’s good choices. You will also learn techniques to manage your dog effectively, whether this will be at home or in public. Learn in a safe fenced class environment – just you and your dog.

Then you can apply those skills in a group environment with only 5 other dogs and their handlers.

Having a dog is a commitment for life, educating your dog to be a well mannered companion is an important investment.
